Today I wish to draw your attention to a very important issue
regarding self satisfaction of sexual desire in our youth with the method of
masturbation. I have received so many letters in last six months from various
girls, boys and some married men and women regarding the habit of masturbation
and its religious implications that I have decided to bring to light the salient
features and facts mentioned in Hadis e Rasool in this context. Unfortunately
the matter is so prevalent in our society that it has invaded all the sectors of
our youth. Girls rub their private parts with fingers and boys use hands to
masturbate and the practice is more common in modest and religious people
because they are afraid of indulging themselves in sex with other men and women.
Since there is little knowledge about this subject and most of ulama have
declared it Mubah and not Gunah or sin but I shall prove that masturbation is a
proven sin in Islam. There is no place for this type of sexual satisfaction in
Islam and if any boy or girl or man or woman commits this act then the
responsibility of this the sin not only lies on his or her shoulders but also on
the parents equally and according to some scholars more on parents than their
children if the boy has reached the age of puberty and the if girl has started
menstruating.
It is taken for granted that if no solution is available one
must commit this act but we are muslims and it is the prime duty of parents to
arrange for the marriage of their children once they have reached the age of
adolescence.
Ulama following
various Fiqhas like Hanfis and Shafis have related various arguments in this
context by their own efforts and they are all baseless. Readers are requested to
take it as a sin and if they commit it at least they must offer nawafil e Tauba
and repent on this action.
Masturbation in Ramazan
Once any body commits masturbation Fast is broken immediately and there is
no need to tolerate hunger and thirst any more. We must remember that Fasting
prohibits all these things and all the motives of masturbation result in
termination of the state of Fast for any Muslim. It is therefore mandatory to
abstain from masturbation at least during fasting state.
Physical Effects of Masturbation
Being a doctor and a consultant physician I wish to describe a few commonly
noticed effects of masturbation on human body , physique and mind of the man or
woman involved in masturbation:
Masturbation inculcates a sense of loss of self esteem and
loss of interest in life. Masturbator becomes shy and cannot face the people.
There is psychological and physical trauma to the body and the organs of sex in
males become oversensitive and later on may result in premature ejaculation
which is of psychological origin and is basically the result of loss of self
esteem. Physically masturbators eat more and the feel aches and pains in body
and cannot perform physical exercise because they feel tired early as compared
to a normal man. The reason for this is that their effort or exercise tolerance
decreases.
Thoughts of Masturbation while Waking and during Sleep and
its Religious Aspects
While awake a masturbator is always thinking of ladies, girls, actresses and
any female in front of him or a male in front of a female masturbate with the
intention of sex. Their brain is always dreaming of sex with any actress or any
female sometimes in certain degree of blood relationship or even females of
animal class like sheep, cow etc as I learnt this from the letters of some boys
from various villages. Ladies and girls dream of sex with men and donkeys etc
as some letters apprised me about this fact and these letters were written by a
school teacher from karachi. These are the incentives and motives of
masturbation. The male or female masturbate thinks about sex looking at a female
or male respectively and their brain processes the required chain of thoughts of
having sex and when it is thought that the act of sex is being performed, body
automatically reaches the point of sexual acme or orgasm and the person
discharges and is sexually satisfied automatically and if the process is delayed
the person is compelled to masturbate and fulfill his or her desire.
This act is Haram and is associated with intense emotional
excitement and pleasure and according to some scientists even more than the
genuine sexual act with a girl or of a girl with a boy. Thus it is a compulsive
habit.
During sleep it is not written in the luck of the unfortunate
masturbators to sleep with any pious idea in their brain and so they again dream
of sex and get up in the morning with dirty clothes. Such a person cannot offer
his or her Fajar prayers or any other prayer being dirty.
Islam is a religion of pious behaviour and thoughts and
cleanliness has been declared as half of the faith.
Motives of Masturbation
Important motives include the freely available pornographic video and CD
movies, internet clubs, magazines TV programs and the habit of looking towards
females and the availability of coeducation for such people. The mental appetite
of sex of a masturbator is never ever satisfied till he commits this act at
least once daily.
How can you Protect yourself from Masturbation?
Early marriage at the age of one’s puberty is the best solution which has
been provided by our religion Islam to protect ourselves from such habits but
nowadays this is not possible because of the trends in society and loss of
religious order from our country. All that we can do is to take bath daily, eat
less, offer five prayers daily, recitation of holy Quran has been found very
effective and if possible the most effective thing is to keep our eyes down and
not to stare at the breasts and buttocks of ladies and girls and also by
avoiding pornographic CD and movies and internet sites of porno type and
magazines and all other material inviting us to sex like erotic songs and
jokes. If somebody saves him or her from sex oriented effects of media and
confines him or her to religion he or she may find it helpful to get rid of
masturbation.
Conclusion
This is for sure that Masturbation is Zina with hands (ZINA BIL DAST) and
it must be avoided and it is a sin. No fatwa from any Alim e Din or any
Religious institution should be accepted in this regard as Holy Prophet MPBUH
advised us in Hadis mentioned in the beginning to save us from self -sex
pleasure if we want to go to paradise.
May Allah guide us all to right path and save us from
abomination and sins. Aameen.
