A Narrative Relating to Rulers, Leaders of Prayers and the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh)

Title:

A Narrative Relating to Rulers, Leaders of Prayers and the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh)

Article:

Subject Matter of the Narrative:

According to Bayhaqiy's

narrative no. 16546, it is reported:

روي أنه قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يا معاذ

أطع كل أمير وصل خلف كل إمام ولا تسبن أحدا من أصحابي.

It is narrated that the Prophet (pbuh)

said: O Mu`adh, be obedient to every ruler, offer your Sala'h behind

every leader of Sala'h and do not insult any of my companions.

Comment on the Narrative

At the end of this narrative, Bayhaqiy has himself given the

following comment:

وهذا منقطع بين مكحول

ومعاذ. (سنن البيهقي، ج8،

ص 185)

The

chain of narrators is broken between Mak'hool and Mu`adh.

Conclusion

Because this narrative has been reported only through a chain of narrators,

which is broken, therefore, we cannot safely hold this narrative as an actual

saying of the Prophet (pbuh).

prepared by the Hadith Cell of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi)
