Muhammad (pbuh) Foretold in the New Testament

There exist some prophecies regarding the Prophet of Isla#m

in the NT of the Bible as well. The most conspicuous among them is that of the

‘Gospel according to St. John’ with reference to ‘the Comforter’ or ‘Paraclete’.

And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another

Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom

the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, but ye know him; for he

dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.[1]

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father

will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to

your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (…). And now I have told

you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince [according to CEV

‘ruler’] of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.[2]

(…),They hated me

without a cause. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you

from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the

Father, he shall testify of me.[3]

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you

that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but

if I depart, I will send him unto you. (…). I have yet many things to say unto

you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is

come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but

whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to

come.

The first and very

important point to be remembered is that Jesus Christ communicated his message

in the Aramaic language, which was generally spoken in the Holy Land in those

days. Greek was also used there, but only in a limited circle among the Govt.

officials and the Elite. The gospels were, from the outset, written in the Greek

language. They were never written in their original language, Aramaic, in which

they were initially delivered. It means that there is an in-built defect in the

compilation of the gospels. They have never been preserved in their original

language. So it cannot be assuredly claimed about some word found in the present

Bible what Aramaic word had been used for it by Jesus Christ. In the absence of

the printing process, the words of the NT were handed down to the posterity in

hand-written form. Their copies were prepared manually by the scribes, among

whom were the careful and the careless, both. Secondly, I shall invite your

attention to another point. Throughout the prophecies the “comforter” or the

“Spirit of Truth” and Jesus Christ stand as separate entities and different

personalities. Separate persons of pronoun have been used for each of them every

time. Jesus used I person pronoun for himself and III person pronoun for the

“Comforter”. (For his addressees he

used the II person pronouns.) … It is

a lengthy discourse; I leave it here. I shall try to address the theme at some

later stage.
