Question

Title: Yoga and Meditation Question: Is it acceptable for Muslims to practice Yoga and Tai Chi Exercises and meditate? Answer: All physical and/or mental exercises that promote a healthy mind and body are permitted for a Muslim. Anything that strengthens ones spirit and will, especially in the way of God, is allowable from the Islamic perspective. For more on mediation please read one of our answers entitled Meditation . An important guideline to remember, however, is the nature of these acts, whatever they may be, they should neither be given any religious sanctity nor consist of any religious practice pertaining to any other faith. Thus the responsibility in partaking in these activities is shouldered upon you. I hope I have clarified the issue. God knows best. Ronnie Hassan January 28, 2004
