Question

Title: Women's Role in the Marriage Procedures Question: Can a female receite nikah? can a women be a lawyer in any nikah? Answer: The Nikah is a marriage contract. Once it is fulfilled the two persons involved are in legal matrimony. There is no prohibition on either sex to perform the Nikah be the proceedings written or verbal. In other words, it does not matter if the official is male or female. Traditionally, the Nikah is performed by the head of either party's family. Conducting the Nikah does not require a lawyer; however, if for any reason one is sought then either sex may perform it. However, if "lawyer" is not meant in the legal sense then a representative - male or female - may conduct the will of the parties concerned. I hope I have clarified the issue. God knows best.
