Question: I was wondering if people who are disabled did something wrong to deserve their disability does their condition help them in any way on the Day of Judgment? Or are they judge like everyone else. Safia Ibrahim Canada Answer: In the hereafter, every person shall be held accountable on the basis of what he was capable of doing - whether from a physical perspective or from an intellectual perspective. This point is clearly confirmed by the following verse of the Qur'an: God does not put upon anyone a responsibility that is beyond his capacity. ( Al-Baqarah 2: 286) Thus, if a person suffers from a disability which hinders the performance of any of his religious or moral obligations, the person would then be given a relief, due to that disability, in his accountability - with reference to that particular obligation - in the hereafter.
