Question

Was the Prophet (pbuh) the Perfect Example I was wondering where the Quran or hadith state that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the perfect example for us? I know that surah 33:21 says he is an excellent example but i was wondering if there was somewhere stating he was the perfect example. Reply The Qur'an in Al-Ahzaab 33: 21 says that in the Prophet is an excellent example [to follow] for all those that believe in Allah and hope for His mercy and hope for a day of menifestation of the mercy and justice of Allah. This is the only place that the Qur'an has mentioned the Prophet (pbuh) as being the example for the Muslims to follow. Some commentators may have translated it as "perfect example", which I do not think has a very different connotation than "excellent" or "brilliant" or "beautiful example". It should remain clear that from the context of the this verse the Prophet's unshakable trust in Allah (particularly during a battle) has been referred to as the most beautiful example for others to follow, in the same way as Abraham (pbuh)'s behavior towards the polytheists - those who held equals with Allah - has been termed as an example for Muslims to follow in Al-Mumtahanah 60: 4. On the basis of this context, we may derive that the Qur'an has termed the Prophet (pbuh)'s moral behavior and his unshakable belief and trust in Allah - in other words, his relationship with Allah - as an excellent example for others to follow. I hope this helps. In case any aspect of my answer remains unclear, please feel free to write back to me at your convenience. Regards The Learner
