Two Lives and Two Deaths?
Question
Title: Two Lives and Two Deaths? Question: Two Lives and Two Deaths? I recall reading in one of the Qur'anic Surahs (I cannot remember which at the moment) of a plea on the part of inhabitants of Hellfire that read: "Twice You gave us life, and twice You gave us death." What exactly is this statement referring to? Omar Sarwar Answer: Your question seems to be with reference to Surah Ghaafir 40: 11. The two lives referred to in this verse are: 1) the temporary life in this world and 2) the life of the hereafter. While the two deaths referred to in this verse are: 1) the state of death (nothingness) before being born in the life of this world and 2) the state of death at the end of the life of this world. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad April 25, 2002
