Touching the Qur'an Without Wudhu (Ablution)
Question
Title: Touching the Qur'an Without Wudhu (Ablution) Question: Can a person touch the Holly Qur'an who satisfies all the conditions of ' Taharat ' but is without ablution ( wudhu )? I am trying to become a ' Hafiz [1] ' of the Holly Qur'an so in order to practice more frequently I want to know that "Is there any flexibility regarding the above question according to Qur'an and the Sunnah ?" With best regards Answer: Being in a state of ablution is not a necessary condition to touch the Qur'an. If the Prophet (pbuh) has not made it a necessary condition to touch the Qur'an, then no one else has the authority to do so. A person may, as a show of his reverence toward the book, of his own will, perform ablution before touching the book. Nevertheless, ablution for this purpose cannot be termed as 'obligatory' [2] . 24 th February 2000 [1] Generally used for a person, who has memorized the complete Qur'an. [2] It may, however, be added that being in a state of ablution, though not a requirement of the Shari`ah , is an important etiquette of our (Muslim's) interactions with the book of God.
