Question

Title: The Prohibition of Alcohol in an Islamic State... Question: We know that for a Muslim alcohol is Haraam . However, what would be the position of non-Muslims (who obviously, are not prohibited from consuming alcohol by the Shari`ah ) if they wanted to purchase and consume alcohol in an "Islamic State"? Razwan Answer: Public sale of liquor, pork and other prohibited items shall not be allowed in a Muslim state. Those non-Muslims, who desire to live in a Muslim state, will have to adhere to the general social and socio-moral norms of the Muslim society in which they reside. Therefore, public sale of liquor shall not be allowed even for the non-Muslim citizens of a Muslim state. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad October 12, 2001
