The Opinion regarding Istikharah

Question

I have studied all your articles on Istikharah . Most scholars that I have come across would say that one should try to feel what his heart's inclination after the istikharah or having a sign/vision/dream-that would tell him what is good for him. But it seems you have a different opinion on it i.e. you believe if one decides to do a certain thing or is inclined towards a certain course of action, after Istikhaarah one should go ahead with the intended action, trusting that Allah will choose what is best for him. Could you inform me the reasons why the other scholars make the stand & also why you differ? (By the way, what is the stand of the salaf scholars, for example Ibnu Taimiyah?) Wassalaam M. Answer

My opinion regarding Istikharah is based on the words of the Istikharah supplication. If you closely observe the Istikharah supplication, you shall see that it does not ask God for any 'signs' through visions and/or dreams, but, in fact, seeks God's guidance and help in taking the decision, which is best suited for our life in this world as well as in the hereafter and to grant us satisfaction and happiness through that decision. It is obvious that this guidance and help and satisfaction on our decision may be granted through any one or more of the infinite number of ways available to the Almighty. One may or may not receive any 'signs' received through dreams and/or visions. As for Ibn Taymiyyah's opinion of the issue, I would suggest that you address this question to a site, which presents the scholar's opinions. I hope this helps.
