Study of Psychology & Other Disciplines
Question
Title: Study of Psychology & Other Disciplines Question: Is there any place for the science of Psychology in Islam? Usman Khokhar Pakistan Answer: All disciplines, which have the potential of enhancing our knowledge regarding the various creations of God, are useful for man. Islam promotes the gaining of all such knowledge, which has the potential of benefiting the humankind, in general, and of enhancing one's knowledge of God's creations, which, in turn, exposes man to the physical manifestation of God's attributes in His creations. It may be of interest to note that the Qur'an has evidenced most of the attributes of God through primarily three sources: Firstly, through his physical creations, which includes man and his surroundings; Secondly, through the moral and spiritual aspects of man's personality; and thirdly, through the history of God's intervention in the societies, in which He sent His messengers. These three aspects clearly relate to the various Physical Sciences, Psychology and History of the Messengers of God, in particular, and of the humankind, in general. All these three disciplines, if studied and taught with a right bent of mind, can greatly bring us closer to recognizing and understanding the attributes of God more effectively. I hope this helps.
