Question

Title: Should the Husband Pay Zaka'h for his Wife? Question: Please, inform me about wife receiving money from husband for her needs and luxuries. Is there any Hadith relates that women should receive money so she can pay Zaka'h as well. What is the ruling on this? Please, explain it to me in detail. Thank you Walaikumasslam Sameena nizami Answer: The husband is indeed responsible to earn for the family. However, the level of the provision of needs and luxuries for the family would depend on the level of the husband's earnings. As for the payment of Zaka'h is concerned, it is ultimately the individual, who is responsible to pay his/her share of Zaka'h . Nevertheless, being the head of the family, the husband can pay Zaka'h on behalf of the whole family, including his wife, if making such payment is possible for him. This really implies that the husband may pay the Zaka'h on behalf of his wife, yet if he is either not in a position to do so or refuses to do so, then the wife will have to pay Zaka'h on her own assets and wealth. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad November 14, 2001
