Question

Regarding the Position of Mirza Ghulaam Ahmad of Qaadiyaan My belief [1] is based on the following four points: (1) The Hazrat Isa (Jesus Christ), (peace on him), died like a normal man. (2) The Mehdi and Isa as foretold by Hazrat Muhamad, (peace be upon him), is one person. (3) There is definite time for advent of Mehdi or Isa. (4) Those signs of truth should be contemplated, which cannot be devised by man. The Allah Almighty uses the word twaffa for Hadhrat Isa in Al-Qur'an. The founder of Jama'at Ahmadiyya challenged the world that there is no other meaning than death when God is subject and man is object and there is no other condition like sleep, etc. Not a single example is found in Al-Qur'an, Hadith or in Arab literature. I will get convinced definitely if anyone shows an example. According to one of the traditions of Hazrat Muhammad, (peace be upon him), ' the Mehdi is no other than the Messiah ' [ Ibn-e-Maja ]. There is another tradition " How would it be with you when the son of Mary will descend among you and you will have a leader raised from among you ?" [ Bukhari , kitabul-anbiya , chapter nuzul isa bin maryam ]. So it has to be construed that the person is one and the same. Otherwise one of the traditions has to be treated as false, which is hard to believe. In one of the traditions Hadhrat Muhammad, (peace be upon him) says that the best of the time is mine, then the one after that and then the one after that, there is complete darkness. Also Verse 5 of Al Sajda says " He rules (all) affairs from the heavens to the earth in the end will (all affairs) go up to Him, on a Day, the space whereof will be (as) a thousand years of your reckoning ". Reading this hadith and Verse of Qur'an means beginning of the 14th century is time for a special occasion, that is, advent of Mehdi/Isa. One of the supporting signs for Mehdi, as reported by Imam Baqar in Darul Qutni, is that there will be eclipse of moon on the first day of its usual ones and eclipse of sun on the last day of its usual ones in the month Ramadhan. This is the sign, which no one can fabricate in his favour. This was forecasted a year before by founder of Jama'at Ahmadiyya and happened in 1884 on one hemisphere and 1885 on the other one. These are the points on which one must contemplate on high priority basis. One must be aware that ignorance of laws is no excuse. Remember God will say: "Did you reject my signs, though you comprehended them not in knowledge, or what was it you did?" Chapter Al-Niml, Verse 81-85. There are a lot of other arguments but I limit myself for the purpose of concise introduction. In case you have any question feel free to ask me any question to the point precisely and exactly. Look forwarding to hearing soon from you. Sincerely, Nasir Amjad Reply I received a few letters from some of the Ahmadi visitors to my site, asking me to consider the belief in the prophethood of the Mirza sahib. My responses to these letters can be read on the site ( 1 , 2 ). The gist of my responses to those letters can be given in just a couple of statements: "I am not even willing to consider any argument given by any Qadiani , Ahmadi or any other school that requires me to believe in any Prophet or Messiah, after Muhammad (pbuh), unless someone tells me that the Qur'an directs and requires me to hold this belief." I would request you, therefore, that to begin any fruitful discussion on the topic of the prophethood or the messiah-hood of the Mirza sahib, please guide me to any one or more of Qur'anic verses that require me to believe in a prophet/messiah/ mujaddid (or whatever you would like me to believe), after the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). In the absence of any clear directive of the Qur'an, regarding the related matter, I really do not even feel the slightest of inclination to even discuss the issue. As far as the four points that you have stated, only the first one relates directly to the Qur'an. However, this point does not even indirectly relate to believing in any prophet/messiah/ mujaddid etc. after the Prophet (pbuh). All the other points are not based on the Qur'an. On the contrary, they are based on narratives ascribed to the Prophet (pbuh), which, because of the inherent weaknesses in the mode of their transmission, can in no case be considered an independent source of religious belief. I would, therefore, request you once again to provide me with a clear directive of the Qur'an, which requires me to believe in a prophet/messiah/ mujaddid (or whatever else!), after the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). May Allah guide us all to the path of His liking. My fondest regards to you and those around you. The Learner [1] The writer apparently seems to ascribe to the Ahmadi Jama`at. The reader should keep in mind that the Ahmadi Jama`at holds Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qaadiyaan to be a prophet of God.
