Regarding the Period of Puerperal Discharge
Question
Title: Regarding the Period of Puerperal Discharge Question: My question is about the 'chilla [1] ' after the childbirth in our subcontinent. In these days the woman is not allowed to go out of home and to have any relations with her husband. I do not find the mention of such a thing in Qur'an or Hadith (with my limited knowledge). My best guess is that it is limited to the time of Puerperal discharge only. Please advise. Mohammad Sarfraz Answer: I agree with your understanding. According to the requirements of the Shari`ah , the same 'restrictions' apply on women during their puerperal discharge as applied to menstruating women. These restrictions relate only to 1) their worship and 2) their copulation with their spouses. These restrictions continue till the discontinuation of the puerperal discharge. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad May 8, 2002 [1] The term refers to the 40-days period after childbirth, during which certain restrictions are imposed upon the mother as well as the new born child.
