Regarding the Oneness of Allah
Question
Title: Regarding the Oneness of Allah Question: What is the most convincing way to prove the Oneness of Allah, the Almighty? It is obvious that Allah has created us, the earth, the moon, the sun, etc, in short, the universe. However, the question is that could Allah have an equal? Why can't Allah have no equals ?? I say to myself that Allah having partners is not possible because if He had one then there would be no God and we wouldn't be here. They would be bound to fight with each other; the concept of right and wrong has no meaning in this, we know as a law that only the superior survives. Obviously since we exist, and we are not fighting a war with the supposed equal of Allah, it can be safely concluded that Allah is, no doubt, superior to everything that there is, and has no partner. The problem is that every time I pray, this question keeps bothering me; it distracts me from my prayer, and leaves me feeling empty. Is my thinking correct? And if not then please give the reasoning that will help me get rid of this problem. I pray to Allah to cure me of this problem. Khalid Zaheer United States of America Answer: There is no need to prove that God does not have an equal. The onus of evidence in this case is on the person who ascribes equals to God. Monotheistic creeds do not approve ascribing equals to God on the grounds that there is absolutely no logical or revelation-based reason to do so. We ascribe to a belief either on the basis of logical or intellectual evidence or on the basis of a clear directive of God. The belief of holding equals to God is supported by neither. On the contrary, all logical and intellectual evidence directs us towards the oneness of the Almighty [1] . As for the questions that keep coming to your mind, I would suggest that rather than trying to cast them aside, you should try to seek satisfactory answers for them and, while doing so, also pray to God to guide you to the path of Truth and ultimate success. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad July 20, 2002 [1] For details, please refer to one of my earlier responses to a question titled " The Importance of Tawheed - Oneness of God ".
