Question

Title: Regarding the Muslim Prayers Question: Regarding the Muslim Prayers What are the timings and the durations of the Muslim prayers? Taryn Nagel Answer: There are five obligatory prayers during a day. The titles and timings of these prayers are as follows: Fajr - from dawn till sunrise; Zuhr - from immediately after midday (the descent of the sun) till midway between midday and sunset; `Asr - from immediately after midway between midday and sunset till before sunset; Maghrib - from immediately after sunset till the end of dusk; and `Ishaa - from after dusk till midway between sunset and sunrise. The duration of these prayers may vary from person to person and due to the person's style of recitation as well as due to the length of the Surahs and other supplications recited by the person. However, offering the obligatory part of these prayers can, on the average, take between five to ten minutes. It can take a little longer for those who offer a few supererogatory (non-obligatory) rak`ahs [1] in their prayers. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad August 29, 2001 [1] Rak`ah is a term used to designate a 'unit' or prayer. The obligatory Rak`ahs in the five obligatory prayers are: 2, 4, 4, 3 and 4 respectively.
