Question

Title: Regarding the Miraculous Birth of Jesus Christ (pbuh) Question: What evidences can be given to a disbeliever to prove that Jesus Christ was born of a single parent, Virgin Mary? Answer: I don't think it would be very wise to start by convincing a non-believer about the miraculous birth of Jesus (pbuh). I think that before trying to convince a non-believer about the miraculous birth of Jesus (pbuh), one should try to point out towards the signs that help us recognize our Merciful, Wise, Omnipotent, Omniscient and Just Creator. As soon as a person recognizes his All-Powerful Creator, he would have no problem in accepting the fact that the Creator is not bound by the physical laws that govern the universe. Miracles are nothing but an instance where something that would generally not happen in the normal course of events occurs by the direct intervention of the All-Powerful Creator of all things. However, a pertinent question in this regard may be regarding the reason why God made a direct intervention, at such an instance. This question, however, requires us to appreciate the special position of Jesus (pbuh) in the history of the Israelites. God made Jesus (pbuh) a living miracle for the Israelites because he was the last prophet from among the Israelites. After Jesus (pbuh) the Israelites, as a nation, were going to be doomed to the punishment of rejection. It was this special position of Jesus (pbuh), due to which God gave him such clear physical signs that would leave no excuse for the Israelites to reject his message. Jesus (pbuh) came with the authority of God as their last chance of salvation, before the institution of prophethood was shifted to the Banu Ishmael and to leave no excuse of rejection for his addressees, he was a living miracle from his birth till his death. I hope this helps. Moiz Amjad October 5, 2004
