Regarding Physical Disabilities
Question
Title: Regarding Physical Disabilities Question: I am an 18 year old male Muslim in the UK and have a disability which means I have limited movement in my hands, feet, and have weak limbs. I have been very interested in finding out about disability of the physical (not mental) kind with possibly some Qur'an quotes or Hadiths . I have found one book that says a Muslim who dies in a state of sickness, dies a martyr. I am not sure of the authenticity of this statement or the meaning of sickness. Please can you enlighten me on this subject? I look forward to your reply Insh'Allah . Akhyar Mahmood Answer: Disability is a part of the various situations that man is faced with, as a test, during the life of this world. Disability or ailment, per se , does not guarantee any rewards in the hereafter. However, a person, who, even though he suffered from a disability, yet tried his best to live a life of obedience and gratitude toward God, shall indeed be rewarded with the eternal bliss of paradise. Quite obviously, every blessing in the life of this world entails a responsibility and if a person does not enjoy any of the great blessings of God, the responsibility, which that blessing entails, is also reduced on that individual. However, in principle, it should be remembered that the reward or the punishment of the hereafter is not dependent upon the situations that man faces, but is actually dependent upon man's response and reactions to these situations. If a person responds to these situations in the desired manner, he renders himself deserving of the great rewards in the life hereafter. I hope this helps. My fondest regards and prayers for you.
