Question

Regarding Amputated Limbs... What is the Islamic ruling regarding amputated limbs whether through operation or due to an accident? Do we have to bury it in the graveyard as a dead body? Benil Hafeeq, India Reply Even though the issue does not pertain to any express directive of the Shari`ah , yet I am inclined toward the opinion that amputated limbs should be buried in the ground like normal dead bodies. However, this does not imply that a janazah (burial) prayer needs to be offered for the amputated limb or that other directives for dead bodies should apply to it. On the contrary, such burial is only a show of respect for life and body. Furthermore, if the person whose limb has been amputated consents to such usage, he may donate his limb for any such purpose, which may benefit mankind, in general [1] . I hope this helps.
