Question

Title: Recitation of Qur’an Question: Is there any reward for reciting & listening to the recitation of the Quran, because I have heard that reciting of Quran will save us from the punishment of grave. Also tell me that in our society there is a formal procedure of Shabina (to recite the Quran by any Priest (Maulvi) for the whole night), considering that this will save us from worldly disasters & we shall be rewarded in the Hereafter. Please tell me to what extent this is true or false? M.ASLAM SAQI Answer: The Qur'an is the guidance God revealed upon His Prophet (pbuh). Reading it or listening to its recitation with the intention of getting guidance from it is, indeed, a pious deed, which shall, insha'Allah , result in great rewards in the Hereafter. However, the way the Qur'an is recited during most of the gatherings of Taraweeh , in general, and during the Shabina , in particular, one can hardly understand a word being recited. Consequently, it becomes impossible to get any guidance from such recitations. I would, therefore, not highly approve of such recitations. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad January 18, 2002
