Recitation in the Witr Sala'h
Question
Title: Recitation in the Witr Sala'h Question: Peace be upon you my dearly respected brother, my question concerning the witr prayer is if one is praying the witr salat can it be said softly or should one say it in his or her chest. Thanking you in advance may Allah bless you and yours and the ummah of our beloved prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H Answer: The Witr (i.e. night) prayer is a supererogatory prayer that can be recited orally or silently. It is, in fact, part of the Tahajjud prayer, which the Prophet permitted some of his followers to offer after the Ishaa prayer. Tahajjud was generally offered in a slightly raised voice. This may indicate that Witr was usually recited vocally. However, one may choose to do it quietly, without raising his voice. I hope I have clarified the issue. God knows best.
