Title: Prayer Timings in the Qur'an Question: Are there timings of all the five prayers in the Qur'an? Answer: Though the Qur'an gives a passing reference to the timings of the prayers, these timings are based primarily on the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). For instance, the Qur'an says: Establish prayers at the timings of the sun's decline till the darkness of the night has fully spread. And reading of the Qur'an [during prayers] at Fajr . (17: 78) The prayer timings set by the Prophet (pbuh) through his Sunnah , correspond with the timings mentioned in this verse of the Qur'an. Zuhr , `asr and Maghrib are prayers corresponding to 'at the timings of the decline of the sun', while `isha is offered at the time when 'the night has fully spread' and Fajr itself is the name of the time at which the morning prayers are offered.
