Marriages and Children of Moses (pbuh), Ibn Taymiyyah and Bukhariy
Question
Title: Marriages and Children of Moses (pbuh), Ibn Taymiyyah and Bukhariy Question: I asked the Imam in our mosque regarding the children of Prophet Moses (sws). He said that he had two wives but no children. Then I read an article "The Prophethood of Muhammad (sws)" by Dr. Khalid Zaheer on the web site http://www.renaissance.com.pk . He wrote Prophet Moses (sws) had children. He did not mention how many. Also, I read that Imam Ibn Taymiyyah and Imam Bukhari had never been married on the web site http://www.renaissance.com.pk in a question "Is Marriage Obligatory" in the issue of the April 2002. This was also contradicted by our Imam in mosque. He said that Imam Bukhari was married and had a son by the name of Abdullah. Please remove the confusion and clarify about the marriages and children of Moses (pbuh), Imam Ibn Taymiyyah and Imam Bukhari. Thanks. Jazzakallah khairun Nauman Ilyas Pakistan Answer: The names of at least two sons of Moses - Greshom and Eliezer - are mentioned in the Torah [1] . The fact that Ibn Taymiyyah and Bukhariy did not marry during their lives is generally accepted and cited and it would, therefore, require solid grounds to believe otherwise. For instance, Da'irah Ma`arif e Islamiy (Mukhtasar) [2] has mentioned Ibn Taymiyyah's celibate life on page 25. In the same manner, Bukhariy's celibate life is also a generally acknowledged fact. In view of the foregoing, it seems more prudent for a person, who claims that Ibn Taymiyyah and Bukhariy did marry during their lives to provide an acceptable historical reference to support his claim. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad May 27, 2002 [1] Refer to Exodus 2: 22 and Exodus 18: 4. [2] Published by the University of the Punjab, Lahore.
