Love Marriage
Question
Title: Love Marriage Question: My question is that if a girl n boy r sincere towards each other ,truly love each other ,they want to get married but their parents dont allow them, then can they get mariied without thier parent;s approval?... are not they allowed to marry the girlboy of thier own choice??... i m asking this in view of the social hurdles regarding love marriage. Answer: There are a couple of points that are needed to be considered here: There are two conditions that are needed to be fulfilled for a marriage contract to become valid. The first is free consent of both the partners. The second is an open declaration of the contract in the society. It is clear from this that permission of parents is not among the conditions, however the second condition means that the marriage contract cannot be made as a secret. A Muslim is advised to remain submissive to his/her parents. This does not mean that he/she should live and decide about his/her future personal life based on the desires of his/her parents. To remain submissive here means that a Muslim should remain extremely respectful, nice and kind to his/her parents, whether obeying them or (in the case of personal matters like marriage) not obeying them due to disagreement. Accordingly, it is advisable that in the situation you described the boy and the girl should first try to very peacefully consult their parents. They need to ask them why they are unhappy with the marriage. Are there any rational reasons behind their disagreement? If there are any rational reasons the boy and the girl should put their emotions aside and think it through, making sure they understand the arguments of their parents and studying very carefully and seriously if their parents are right in this regard. If after a thorough and sincere consideration the boy and the girl found that they still disagree with their parents then they should do what ever they can to get the approval of their parents. Eventually, if they could not get the approval of their parents, they may become married. The marriage contract however should be done openly and the parents need to be informed about it. The man and the woman should remain submissive to their parents after their marriage and they should continue to seek the approval of their parents and to make them happy about the new situation.
