Is Wanting to Avoid Fornication a Good Reason for Marriage?
Question
Title: Is Wanting to Avoid Fornication a Good Reason for Marriage? Question: I am 25 and I have never really been interested in men, dating, or even getting married until only very recently. I am seeing one man for whom I do not feel crazy love or any of the feelings I believe somebody should have for a person with whom he or she intends to get married. However, if that person asked me for marriage I would say yes, just because I want to get married to avoid such sins as fornication. Is that a good reason for wanting to get married by any means? Thank you very much for your help. Fatima USA Answer: The stated reason is indeed one of the most commendable and pious reasons for marriage. We know that sex can become a strong drive in enticing us to deviate from the prescribed path of the Almighty and we also know that marriage allows us the environment in which we can live a gratified life, without having to cross the limits prescribed by the Almighty. In view of this fact, intending to enter into the bond of marriage with the intention of allowing oneself the environment to live a life within the prescribed limits of the Almighty will insha'Allah be greatly rewarded in the hereafter. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad May 20, 2002
