Is it Necessary for one to Perform Wudhu after changing a Child's Diapers?
Question
Title: Is it Necessary for one to Perform Wudhu after changing a Child's Diapers? Question: My older sister recently had a baby girl, and after changing her diaper my mother told me to go perform wudhu . Apparently she was told that after one comes in contact with a child's (specifically a girl's) bodily fluids, that a person's Wudhu is broken. Is this true? Thank you for your time. AS-SALLAMUALAKUM Answer: It is not necessary to perform Wudhu after changing a baby's (whether it is a boy or a girl) diapers. According to the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh), wudhu is breached (broken) when a person: Passes wind; Urinates; Defecates; Has a sexual intercourse or orgasm; and in case of women, enters her menstrual cycle or enters a period of puerperal hemorrhage. In the first three cases, a person may offer his/her prayers after performing a new ' wudhu ', while in the fourth case, the person would have to take a bath before offering his/her prayers and in the fifth case, the woman will have to wait till the end of her menstrual cycle or the period of puerperal hemorrhage and then take a bath, before she offers her prayers. I hope this helps. Regards August 23, 2001
