Title: Hadith Regarding the Edibles of Ahl Al Kitaab Question: "Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi mentions in this connection a Hadith which tells us that the Prophet's companions put to him the question that they might have meat but they would not know if God's name was invoked at the time of slaughter. He told them to mention God's name and eat it." Someone mentioned this in regard to a question about the validity of eating the meat of the Ahl-e-Kitaab, what is that Hadith? and the references for it? is it Sahih Bukhari? Muslim? Answer: The hadith has been recorded with slightly different wordings in a number of sources. For instance: Narrated 'Aisha: The people said to the Prophet , "O Allah's Apostle! Here are people who have recently embraced Islam and they bring meat, and we do not know whether they had mentioned Allah's Name while slaughtering the animals or not." The Prophet said, "You should mention Allah's Name and eat." Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 93, Number 495: or: Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa that his father said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was asked, 'Messenger of Allah! Some people from the desert bring us meat, and we do not know whether the name of Allah has been mentioned over it or not.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Mention the name of Allah over it and eat.' " Malik said, "That was in the beginning of Islam." Book 24, Number 24.1.1.
