Employment in the Computer Section of a Bank
Question
Title: Employment in the Computer Section of a Bank Question: What do you think about a person who has got an offer from a bank's IT (Computer) Dept? He is not going to be involved in finance/credit/loan departments instead his main job responsibilities are to maintain and/or develop computer systems. Answer: For my opinion regarding seeking employment with a bank, please refer to one of my earlier responses to a similar question titled: " Is Present Day Banking Based on Riba ? " As far as whether or not there is any difference in the position of the various departments of a bank is concerned, in my opinion, the answer to this question is 'No'. It is quite clear that every department of an organization, whether Finance, Personnel, Credit, Marketing or IT, contributes, in its own particular way, in achieving the overall targets of the organization. Thus, if the targets of an organization seem, in any way, to be in conflict with the directives of the Shari`ah , then a Muslim should try his best to avoid working for such an organization, even if his field of work contributes indirectly, rather than directly, to the targets and objectives of the organization. A bank, as you know, is a commercial organization. All its departments, in one way or the other, contribute in achieving its commercial targets and objectives. Therefore, if you concur with my opinion regarding whether or not the present day banking system is based on Riba , then, in my opinion, it would only be prudent, as a God-fearing Muslim, to avoid working for a bank, as far as possible.
