Divorce and Re-Marriage
Question
Title: Divorce and Re-Marriage Question: I am a married woman with a 5 year old child. I have been seperated from my husband for nearly 4 years. We have had many problems and just dont get on. I recently went to Pakistan to work things out but unfortunately i feel as i dont love him anymore. A close friend of mine who has supported me and been there for me whilst i needed help has proposed to me, and as bad as it sounds I believe he would take care of me and my son. But i understand it is wrong, I'm so confused and worried. Please somebody help me, I want to do the right thing islamically. please help me, what do i do? am I being selfish? am i wrong? Answer: I really cannot see where the problem lies. You have given it a real try and after four years you have been unable to reconcile your marriage. If you are divorced then you are free to marry the man who has proposed to you. There is not much more advice that can be given from an Islam point of view regarding this issue. I, personally, recommend that the father remain active in your child's life. Part of the child's identity belongs with the father and this cannot be overlooked. Whatever decisions you make, base them with the mindset that you are not alone; you are thinking for two people. May God guide you every step of the way. I hope I have clarified the issue. God knows best. Ronnie Hassan March 19, 2005
