Covering Head During Sala
Question
Covering Head During Sala'h Is it necessary to cover your head during Sala'h ? Reply The Shari`ah has not prescribed any special dress code for the Sala'h . Whatever dress a Muslim wears, generally, is to be worn during the Sala'h as well. If our normal dress includes a head covering, we would keep our heads covered during Sala'h . While, on the contrary, if our normal dress does not include a head covering, we would not specially cover our heads for the Sala'h . Those who consider head covering to be essential for Sala'h have derived their opinion from the fact that the Prophet (pbuh) would generally keep his head covered during Sala'h . However, the important point that they have missed is that head covering was a part of the general dressing of the Prophet (pbuh), which was adopted without any alteration during the prayers as well. Furthermore, the Prophet has not been reported to direct anyone to cover his head, specially, for Sala'h . In view of the above explanation, in my opinion, if head covering is a part of our general dressing, as, for example, is still the case in most parts of Saudi Arabia, then we would keep our heads covered during Sala'h as well. However, if head covering is not a part of our general dressing, then the head should not be, specially, covered for the Sala'h . I hope this helps. Regards, The Learner
