Question

Title: Can Women Dye their Hair? Question: Is it permissible for women to dye their hair? Answer: There is no harm in using hair dye. People used to apply hair dye during the time of the Prophet (pbuh) and the Prophet (pbuh) did not disapprove it. However, there are certain narratives ascribed to the Prophet (pbuh), in which he is reported to have expressed his dislike toward people who dye their hair jet black. The dislike is probably toward a person's hiding his age and striving to appear younger than he really is. Nevertheless, once when Hadhrat Ayesha (ra) was asked whether a woman may use " Henna " (a kind of myrtle leaf) to dye her hair, the Mother of the believers is reported to have said that "There is no harm in so doing, but I do not use it, because my beloved (i.e. the Prophet) did not like its fragrance". I hope this helps. October 9, 2000
