Question

Can a Person Marry a Girl With Whom His Father had a Relationship? Can a person marry a girl with whom that person's father has committed adultery sometime in the past. Razi, Pakistan Reply The Qur'an has prohibited a person's wife for marriage to the son of that person. This prohibition shall apply only to the lawfully wedded wife of that person. No prohibitions follow any extra-marital relationships of a person. However, if one knows that the person with whom one is considering marriage has had a relationship with one's father or mother, it would be advisable to avoid such marriage, in view of the socio-psychological implications that may follow from such a marriage. Nevertheless, such marriage cannot be termed as prohibited in the Islamic Shari`ah . Marriages that are prohibited in the Shari`ah because of other relations are only prohibited in case such other relation (due to which marriage has been prohibited like father's wife, mother's husband, son's wife or daughter's husband etc.) truly exists or existed in the past. I hope this helps. In case any question remains unanswered, please feel free in writing back to me at your own convenience. May the Almighty guide us all to the path of His liking.
