Question

Title: Can a Muslim Girl Be Given in Marriage to an Ahmadi ? Question: According to the laws of Islam is it right for a parent to give their daughter in marriage to a Qadiani ? What are the formalities? How can he be converted to Islam? Answer: The first thing that should be clarified is that the Shari`ah does not entail any express directives regarding the interpersonal relations between Muslims and the Ahmadis , simply because of the fact that the Ahmadis did not exist at the time of the revelation of the Shari`ah . Thus, it would be incorrect to say that the "Islamic law" prohibits or allows a Muslim woman/man to marry an Ahmadi man/woman. The matter does not relate to the Islamic law (i.e. the Shari`ah ), but to the Muslim law (i.e. the law made by the Muslims in the light of the directives of the Shari`ah ). Keeping the above explanation in perspective, contemporary Muslim laws do not allow Muslims to marry Ahmadis . If a person wants to become a Muslim, converting from Ahmadiism , he may simply renounce the belief of holding Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian a prophet of God and declare his adherence to the beliefs of Islam. This should preferably be done in a competent court of law, to give such conversion a legal standing. 1 st July 2000
