Question

Title: Breaking of Wudu while in Prayers Question: I want to ask that while we are praying, if our wuzoo breaks in between prayers (due to passing gas) then do we have to make wuzoo again? When I went for Umrah , while performing saee , my wuzoo used to break, I didn't stop in between and continued my saee . Was it wrong? I do pray that Almighty forgives me. Also, while standing for taraveeh , at times I used to do wuzoo again (once it broke) and at times I didn't because it was very irritating! What does a person do when encountered by such a situation? Anonymous Pakistan Answer: One does not need to be in a state of ablution ( wudu ) while performing all of the parts of Hajj and/or Umrah. On the contrary, being in a state of Wudu is essential while offering Sala'h . If, under normal circumstances, one's ablution is invalidated while offering Sala'h , the Sala'h that he/she was offering would also be invalidated. Under such a situation, one should perform fresh ablution and then offer the Sala'h . The foregoing is the rule for normal circumstances. Under extra-ordinary circumstance, where, for instance, a person is suffering from an ailment due to which he cannot control passing wind, then he may, while taking due care to cure his ailment, perform wudu at the beginning of the prayer and subsequently should ignore all incidence of passing wind and continue to offer his prayers till the end. A person may benefit from such allowance till the time that he has recovered from his ailment. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad December 23, 2002
