Question

Assalam-Alikum, I am sending mail from NY, USA. I had a question about Isha namaz. I wanted to know till when we can read Isha namaz. someone told me that we can't read Isha after 12 mid night but my aunty told me that if we didn't sleep at all, then we can read it till 2am and after that its tahajad time. so please help me and let me know Isha finishing time. thanks. Please reply me soon so I can fix if i have a mistake. Allah Hafiz

Answer

Attaining the cut-off point of Isha prayers is not an exact science. There are ahadith (i.e. reports) in which the Prophet delayed it even after people had gone to sleep then awoke to pray Isha. Hence the mid-way between Maghrib prayers and the next day's Fajr prayer would be the recommended cut-off point. Tahajjud prayers are performed after some sleep has been experienced and after Isha prayers are performed. Tahajjud prayers fall in the late hours of the night or early morning before dawn. I hope I have clarified the issue. God knows best. Ronnie Hassan January 7, 2005 Answer published by Ronnie Hassan
