Al-Qamar (54): Breaking of the Moon in Two
Question
Title: Al-Qamar (54): Breaking of the Moon in Two Question: Does Surah Al Qamar (54) tell us that the moon was broken into two as a miracle performed by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)? Do we have any historical references to this incidence? I wish to know if this was also witnessed by any other nation and do their historical references tell us of any such happening. Thank you. Nohman Ishtiaq Answer: First of all, it should be clearly understood that the Qur'an has not presented the referred incident as a miracle of the Prophet (pbuh). On the contrary, the Qur'an has mentioned the referred incident as a sign of the promised hour, without ascribing it to the Prophet (pbuh) or mentioning it as a miracle. I have not yet come across any historical accounts of other nations, which refer to the incident. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad December 2, 2001
