Al-Anbiyaa 21: 85 - Who is the Prophet Dhul Kifl?
Question
Title: Al-Anbiyaa 21: 85 - Who is the Prophet Dhul Kifl ? Question: The only mention of Prophet Dhu'l-Kifl that I have come across is in Surah Al-Anbiaa , Ayah 85. Do we know more about this Prophet? I know that the Qur'an refers to some of the Prophets by other names; for example, Prophet Yunus is referred to as " Dhu'n-Nun ", or the "Lord of the Fish." Could it be that Dhu'l-Kifl is also referring to a prophet who we know by another name? Answer: Details regarding the two prophets ( Idrees and Dhul-Kifl ) referred in verse 85 of Surah Al-Anbiaa cannot be traced from the Bible or any other source. It seems that either the names of these two prophets have been considerably altered in the Arabic language or information regarding them is a part of the lost books of the Bible. The only thing that can be said about them is that they were an embodiment of patience and steadfastness in the way of their Lord, as they have so been praised in the referred verse of the Qur'an [1] . Some scholars are of the opinion that Dhul-Kifl is the Arabic name of the prophet Ezekiel. However, this opinion is not supported by adequately strong evidence. 29 th December 1999 [1] However, because of the reference to these prophets in the Qur'an, it can safely be assumed that they were well known to the Arabs, during the times of the Prophet.
