Ablution in Disease
Question
Title: Ablution in Disease Question: If one suffers from some sort of disease (like discharge of gas etc.) and because of this recurring problem the person has difficulty in maintaining his wudhu even during the prayer, can he offer prayers or continue his prayers without a new ablution? Answer: In my opinion, if someone suffers from the stated problem, he should perform his ablution before each prayer, then if his ablution breaks during the prayer, due to his disease or illness, he may continue his prayer till the end without renewing his ablution. My opinion is based on the following words of the Qur'an , which come after the directive of performing ablution before prayers: Allah does not wish to burden you; He wants only to purify you and (thereby) to perfect His favor upon you, so that you may be thankful. ( Al-Maaidah 5: 6) Moreover, the Prophet (pbuh) also allowed women suffering from Istihaadha [1] to perform wudhu before their prayers and to complete their prayer with this ablution, even if they drip blood during their prayers. 18 th October 1998 [1] Istihaadha is an ailment in some women in which there is an irregular dripping of non-menstrual blood.
