A Question Regarding the Gospel of Barnabas
Question
Title: A Question Regarding the Gospel of Barnabas Question: Is the Gospel of Barnabas authentic, I have looked into its lineage and from this it seems authentic. However, as you would know there is much disagreement from Muslim and Christian views. Could you clarify for me, is it a fake? Thanks Answer: The Gospel of Barnabas, in its present form, as published by the Clarendon Press, is not authentic in toto. Like all other Gospels and Epistles etc. of the New Testament, it has a large amount of truth mixed with interpolations and corruption etc. Because the Christian scholars do not accept as their canonical literature, it is useless for a Muslim to build any arguments against the Christians on its basis. No doubt Barnabas wrote a gospel, and the church authorities banned his gospel. It was included in the list of the rejected books for its having some material against the accepted creed of the dominant Christian authorities of those days, which is a clear proof of existence during the early the early Christian centuries. But as to the present Gospel of Barnabas, it cannot be safely affirmed that it is the same book which was written by Barnabas. Regards Note : This response is written by Mr. Abdus Sattar Ghauri
