Question
Title: A Criticism on the Opinions Expressed at "Understanding Islam" Question: We are a group of Muslims who read your answers on some questions, and we came across the answer to the question related to the ablution with nail polish. We know for a fact that your answer is WRONG. We want to know, based on what are you giving these answers. There are a lot of other answers that we know is either WRONG or NOT ACCURATE. If there are people, who newly converted to Islam and they came to your site to learn more about Islam, and learned the wrong way, the sin ( ithm ) will be upon YOU. We will be visiting your site on a regular basis and if we find out that this is still going on, we will have to do something about it. If you are concerned about this email, write back and let us know your point of view. We are not trying to be bad, on the contrary, we appreciate your efforts in making this site, it is a good way, but all we are asking from you is to do it the RIGHT way. Regards Answer: May Allah guide us all to the path of His liking. I have never claimed to be correct in all my opinions. At 'Understanding Islam', we present our opinions based on our understanding of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). Our understanding, on any given issue, may not be accurate. However, we cannot know about the incorrectness of our opinions unless brothers like you point out our mistakes. I would therefore appreciate if you would be kind enough to point out the basis of your differences with us. You write: "We will be visiting your site on a regular basis and if we find out that this is still going on, we will have to do something about it." Your regular visit to our site will be an honor for us. However, we feel obliged to honestly present the opinion, which is correct according to our own understanding of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh), not the opinion, which you or anyone else holds to be true. Therefore, I would suggest that the appropriate way is to give your reasons for the differences that you may have with our opinion. I think it is the only way we may be able to resolve any difference that we may have. It is also the only way we will be able to determine, understand and appreciate the correctness or incorrectness of our opinions. May Allah reward you for your sincere efforts in communicating the true teachings of Islam. 29 th November 1999
