A Comment on Alcohol in Perfumes

Question

A Comment on Alcohol in Perfumes This is an addendum to your post on the website... The alcohol used in perfumes is not khamr as it is not created by fermentation... It is created in laboratories or plants. Secondly... the alcohol in perfumes is called alcohol as it has similar chemical properties to 'khamr' based alcohol. khamr is normally ethanol, while perfume alcohol can be any of the other members of the alcohol family. Methanol of the alcohol family is quite toxic to human beings as if it does not kill you, it will definitely leave you blind with probable brain damage... An interesting insight I received in America (you probably are already aware of this) was that if 'khamr' is not made properly all the methanol in the ferment does not get converted in ethanol and can leave people damaged.. quite a common occurance in Southern States of USA' where a home made brew called moonshine is made and drunk quite readily. Keep up the good work Siraj Tahir Reply Thank you for your comments in support of my point of view. However, I would just like to add that even if the alcohol used in perfumes and colognes were the same as that used in intoxicating liquor, it would not have rendered the application of such perfumes prohibited. The reason is that the Qur'an has prohibited the consumption of liquor as a beverage, not as a cologne or a perfume. Thank you once again for providing the information.
