Question

A Clarification of ' More on Living Together After Divorce ' Actually, my question was whether it would be sinful to remain married without intimacy Reply I am sorry for not being able to fully understand your question the last time. If there is a reasonable and a mutually agreed upon cause for avoiding intimacy (as seems to be the case in your situation), the very resolution of avoiding intimacy, per se, cannot then be termed as sinful. However, it should be kept in mind that one of the most important elements in marriage is the satisfaction of our biological needs. If these biological needs remain unsatisfied for a long time, this may develop frustrations in us and lead us to do something that is sinful. Thus, even though it is not sinful to 'remain married without intimacy' it can easily lead to something that is sinful. In view of this fact, what I had suggested in my previous response was that you can think of avoiding divorce (and live a distant life) till such time that any one of the two feels that it is no longer possible for him/her to suppress his/her biological needs. At that time, divorce may be resorted to, and subsequently the couple should live separately, as well. The only advantage that I see in opting for this way is that it keeps the doors of a 'complete reunion' open for the couple till a slightly longer time. Please accept my apologies in not being able to fully comprehend your question the last time. My regards to you and those around you. The Learner
