Title: Regarding the 'Qira’at-al-Aammah' Question/Comments: Could you please explain what Qiraat-al-aammah is? Is it the reading done by majority of the Muslims all over the world? In the referred article at answering-islam.com, there is a table listing the difference in the letters or reading of the words in the Qur`an according to Hafs and Warsh transmission. Could you please explain which is the correct reading for the words where a difference is mentioned in the table? Which is the correct written available copy of Qur`an which has the Qiraat-al-ammah reading? May Allah reward for your efforts. Regards, Mohd Answer: When the concept of the variant Qira'at came into vogue, the term "Qira'at al-Aammah" , as the words imply, also came in circulation to refer to the common reading followed by the masses. "Qira'at al-Aammah" is still the commonly followed Qira'at throughout that part of the Muslim world, which was introduced to the Qur'an, directly by the companions of the Prophet (pbuh). Thus, Qira'at al-Aammah is the only recitation, which enjoys Tawatur - i.e. verbal perpetuation - of all the generations of the Muslims starting from the companions of the Prophet (pbuh). The Qira'at al-Aammah is, in fact, the Qira'at of Hafs . In my opinion, therefore, the only correct reading of the Qur'an is the particular reading of the Qira'at al-Aammah , otherwise called the Qira'at al-Hafs . I hope this helps.
