Title: Regarding the Information Relating to Jinn in the Qur'an... Question/Comments: I was surprised that you did not mention the fact that the Qur'an explains what a Jinn is or at least what they are made of: "And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke..."(055.015 Yusuf Ali) and "And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind." (015.27 Yusuf Ali). If you read about color temperature and how humans perceive color (still debated by scientists) you may find higher degrees of light (measured by Kelvin) tend to become lighter in color. From red, to blue to unperceivable color, this, I believe, relates to the smokeless fire that is written in the Holy Qur'an. It could mean that Jinn are created of a light that humans cannot perceive. Allah knows best. Answer: I did not mention the basic element from which, according to the Qur'an, Jinn are made of due to a slightly different perception of the question that had been asked. I had perceived the question not as inquiring about the element of the creation of Jinn, but as one inquiring about what they look like and the nature of their interaction with man. Nevertheless, reconsidering my perception of the question, I do agree with you that the answer should also have included the particular aspect that you have mentioned in your letter. It may, however, be mentioned that the Qur'an has only mentioned the (or one of the) basic elements from which the race of the Jinn was created. It is difficult to derive an elaborate explanation of the material from which Jinn are created and why we are not in a position to observe them through our eyes, merely on the basis of the allusions in the Qur'an. Some of the verses of the Qur'an, relevant to the topic are Al-Aa`raaf 7: 12, Al-Hijr 15: 27 and Al-Rahmaan 55: 15. I am not suggesting that the explanation you have given is incorrect (or vice versa). My contention is that your explanation can be accepted only as one of the possible explanations for why we cannot see the Jinn . The Qur'an has only mentioned that Jinn are created from 'an abstract of fire' or 'a flame' [1] . The details of the physical attributes of Jinn are not given in the Qur'an. An effort to derive elaborate details of the physical characteristics of Jinn from the given information is likely to be only as accurate as if someone who had not seen man, were to derive details of man's physical properties from the statement that 'man is created from an abstract of earth'. August 25, 2000 [1] In my opinion, keeping in view the other relevant verses of the Qur'an, this would be a more accurate translation of Al-Rahmaan 55: 15.
