More on 'Reciting or Using Part of a Verse of the Qur'an Text'
Title: More on 'Reciting or Using Part of a Verse of the Qur'an Text' Question/Comments: JKK for your explanation. For point 2, could you inform me regarding the status of the hadith (2910). For point 3.If we do make a ruqyah using the Quran, are we still entitled for the 10 hasanah per word? Do you consider the Sunnah of reciting the ayatul Qursi & 3 qul & blowing onto the palms & rubbing the body with it 3 times before sleeping as a ruqyah? Aw Alfansa Malaysia Answer: The Hadith has been reported in Sunnan Tirmidhi and is authentic, though no one else from the compilers of Sahaah Sitta has reported it. The referred narrative relates only to reading the Qur'an with the intention of taking guidance from it [1] . This is no Sunnah . A Hadith may be forwarded to support that exhortation to carry out this practice is ascribed to the Prophet (sws) but then Sunnah is not derived from the Ahadith literature. Sunnah is indeed the tradition of the Abrahamic practices that the Holy Prophet (sws), after cleansing of the blemishes which had crept into them over a passage of time and making certain additions to them on divine bidding, instituted among his followers as an integral part of the religion. He ensured that his followers would incorporate them into their daily life. These practices with a consensus of the Companions (rta) of the Prophet (sws) over their ascription to the Prophet (sws) and the method of carrying them out were transferred to the next generation and thus have reached us through a generation-to-generation link of the Muslims. To give you some examples, I quote some Sunnan of the Holy Prophet (sws); the ritual prayer we offer five times a day, fasting in the month of Ramadan , circumcision of all male new born, shrouding our dead and burying them, and getting rid of the undesired hair. From this explanation, you can easily assess that what you have described does not form part of the Sunnah of the Prophet (sws). Whether doing what you have mentioned is ruqyah , I would like to make no comment since it is actually the intended results that make the practice fall under the category of ruqyah . A person may simply wish to remind himself of the Almighty by reciting Ayatul Qursi and the three Qul before going to sleep whereas the other may intend to meet some spirits while sleeping. I however would like to say that the best way to remember Allah is to learn and utter the supplications of the Prophet (sws) for different occasions.
