Title: More clarification on Al-Ra`d 13:7 Question/Comments: Thank you for your clarification. Could you please explain why God has not used the word Munzir (warner) for both occasions? Why does He say "you are WARNER and there is a GUIDE for every nation"? Why it doesn't say you are a WARNER and there is a WARNER for every nation? Rahim United Kingdom Answer: The referred verse has suppressed the similar parts in the two sentences and has, thus, highlighted two separate qualities in the two sentences, rather than repeating both the qualities that were to be mentioned. Thus, rather than saying: "You are only a warner [of a great punishment who has been sent to guide people to the right path]; and for each of the [previously punished] nations there was guide [warning them of a great punishment]", the Qur'an has suppressed one of the two attributes in the first sentence and the other attribute in the second sentence. This kind of suppression of similar qualities and words in supplementary sentences is quite well known in the classical Arabic literature. This style does not only save from repetition of similar qualities and highlights the mentioned quality in each part, but also persuades the reader to deliberate over the material more thoroughly. I hope this helps. Regards, Moiz Amjad January 15, 2003
