Further Discussion on Cruelty to Animals
Title: Further Discussion on Cruelty to Animals Question/Comments: Thanks for the prompt reply and the detailed article; I have understood the view of Islam on vegetarianism; After reading your detailed article i come to the conclusion that Islam has not addressed the aspect of cruelty at all, either avoidable or otherwise; probably it is assumed that man has a right to inflict cruelty on animals for his food just as other carnivorous animals do; Jainism on the other hand has a different view on the subject; Regards, Answer: My referred article was not on Islamic teachings regarding cruelty to animals. The article, in fact, was on the directives of Islam regarding edibles. It seems, therefore, that the article is not even related to the conclusion that you have drawn from it. Islam does not allow cruelty to animals. However, it does not consider using these animals, in any way, which would benefit man, e.g. as food or as a means of commuting, to be cruelty. In short, it seems that Islam, indeed, has a different view, regarding utilization of the meat of some animals as food, as compared to Jainism. November 1, 2000
