Title: Asexual Reproduction in Plants and the Qur'an Question/Comments: Since we're talking about pairs and stuff well I just came across this Ayah today, 13:4 that states: “And in the earth are neighboring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops, and date-palms, growing into two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise (one stem root for every palm), watered with the same water; yet some of them We made more excellent than others to eat. Verily, in these things there are Ayat for the people who understand.” I guess this is hinting like asexual reproduction I would think in plants (although there are other things that reproduce asexually I believe) a while ago I was searching the net on this issue and well you can check out this site on asexual reproduction on plants and relate it to this ayah in the Qur'an, http://www.ri.net/schools/Narragansett/NHS/PerEwebpage/asexrep.html l8er, John Answer: As I understand it, the verse is referring to a few of the signs of the great wisdom, control and planning of the Almighty, which are apparent in the physical world. Nevertheless, there can obviously be a difference of interpretation of a piece of literature. Regards, Moiz Amjad November 14, 2001
